We (Debbie & Michele) just realized we are both 40lbs over weight! (How'd that happen?) Our goal is to get into a Halloween (2011) costume for a trip to Vegas! This is our version of fight club to see who can beat who at losing the weight. So we put a wager on it - winner takes all!!!

Michele: Tired
Ok So I'm tired. Real tired. I again didnt get up this morning and get on the tread climber. However when I got home I got right to it! So I'm still making it happen - but man I'm tired. My concern is that doing the tread climber when I get home pushes back the time I eat dinner which isnt good. So I'm hoping tomorrow I can get up in time to get it out of the way in the morning. The concern I have is getting enough sleep. Studies have shown that on average a person who gets only 5-6 hours of sleep at night consumes more calories then a person who gets 7 or more hours of sleep at night. So I still have some things I need to work out. Anyone have any tips - let me know!

Michele: Getting it done
This morning was rough. I didnt want to get up at 4am and face the tread climber. And I didnt. So my first thought when I got home was I owe myself time on the tread climber. So I got myself together and got on. While I was on the tread climber I thought to myself instead of doing 30 minutes like normal I was going to do 40 minutes. So that is my "punishment". If I dont get up in the morning I have to spend 10 more minutes of my time on the tread climber at night! Either way morning or night as long as I'm getting it done - it doesnt matter.
Debbie: Day 4
Still eating good on the program (had some grilled chicken in my salad...that was pretty much my only no-no).
Did the Plyometrics dvd from P90X! This kills me everytime. I'm soooo tired but when I'm done I feel good that I did it!
Plyometrics (also known as "plyos") is a type of exercise training designed to produce fast, powerful movements, and improve the functions of the nervous system, generally for the purpose of improving performance in sports. Plyometric movements, in which a muscle is loaded and then contracted in rapid sequence, use the strength, elasticity and innervation of muscle and surrounding tissues to jump higher, run faster, throw farther, or hit harder, depending on the desired training goal. Plyometrics is used to increase the speed or force of muscular contractions, providing explosiveness for a variety of sport-specific activities. Plyometrics has been shown across the literature to be beneficial to a variety of athletes. Benefits range from injury prevention, power development and sprint performance amongst others. (Wikipedia)

Michele: 1 Week Down - 8lbs Gone
Ok, since I started working towards this goal last Monday - I figure I will be doing 2 weigh ins a week. One on Mon to chart my progress and one on Fri where I will be going head to head with Debbie. So this morning I got on the scale and I am down 8lbs from last Monday!!!! WWWOOOOOHHHHOOOO!
So I am continuing on my path. Eating the same stuff just way less (2 slices of pizza not 4), treadclimber in the morning and if I can fit it in something at night great! If not I'm not going to worry about the night workout too much. Tonight I got another 90 minutes of Yoga in.
How is everyone out there doing? What are you doing to lose weight and how is it going for you?

Debbie: Day 3
It's day 3 and I haven't had any coffee!! Can I survive this? lol Actually, I have been drinking green tea (it's allowed) and I'm not feeling toooo bad. I've been following my eating program pretty well. Today I did an hour on the elliptical machine (on the highest incline....by accident...ugh) then I came home and did P90X!! It's been about a year since I did P90X and back then I did it for two months and saw results!! It works!! BRING IT!!

Saturday - Weekend Warrior!
So as you all know my approach to this is a little different then what Debbie is doing. Which I think you have to find what works for you and what you like or don't mind doing or not doing and then you can piece together a plan that works for you.
Here is my basic plan:
FOOD: I'm not following a diet plan or eat anything special. All I'm doing is simply eating what I would normally eat just less of it. For example a breakfast sandwich from a fast food place. I cut it in half and split it with someone. Now I don't make it a habit to get these but sometimes you are in a hurry and it's gonna happen. Also for those treats that show up at the office - cake for example; just have a couple bites. That way you get the taste and still feel like part of the group but you don't need to eat a slice that is the size of your head.
EXERCISE: Monday - Friday I will be utilizing my Bo flex Treadcliber for 30 minutes each day. My goal is to get up early and get it done. If I just cant seems to get out of bed in time, I make it the first thing I do when I get home. Saturday is Yoga day! I use the P90x Yoga and do all 90 minutes. Sunday is a day of rest but if I feel up to it I will do some Wii Fit.
GOAL: To lose 40lbs by Oct 28th. This is a very aggressive goal. However even if I don't hit this goal by Oct 28th I will celebrate the weight I have lost and keep working towards this goal.
Good luck to everyone else who is working towards a goal! You'll get there! Don't ever give up!

Debbies First Meal of the "Fat Fight"
Debbie's First Breakfast
Todays first breakfast consists of 4 egg whites (with a splash of skim milk), sauteed onions, mushrooms, green bell pepper, and mushrooms (using olive oil) and a dash of salt. I also had fat free refried beans mixed with some black beans. Sprinkled with fat-free cheese and home made salsa on the side! Mmmm, it was pretty tasty I must say! I also had a cup of green tea...plain (that was a hard one....no coffee....how can I do this)!! My goal is to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day!
Oh, and the pretty pink flowers in the background were a nice (encouraging) surprise from my super sweet boyfriend! :)
First Snack
This is my first snack of the day....it's supposed to be a heavy snack. I chose low-fat vanilla yogurt with fresh raspberries!! I just LUV fresh raspberries!! Also, my second bottle of water!
Lunch
This is my first time cooking Black Beans & Brown Rice.....with the cilantro garnish and a little of that fresh salsa added....it was delicious!! I'm still supposed to eat 2 more snacks and dinner....how will I ever do it?? This will be my third bottle of water.
I was supposed to eat a snack before dinner but I really am still full from lunch....now it's time to make dinner!! They say not to skip ANY meals.... I don't think I'll starve following this plan!
Dinner
My last meal of the day I chose a veggie stir-fry... Plus, my 4th bottle of water! I'm still full from lunch so I really didn't eat that much for dinner. I guess that is better anyway.
Last Snack
For my last snack of the day I will have a plum and another bottle of water. They say to do this at least 2 hours before I go to bed.
Thats it.....this is pretty much what my meals will look like for the next 9 days! Wish me luck!

Here We Go....
Debbie
This is my "before" picture! Now, you have to give us some credit....I know we look like crap....but we just got done running/walking in 114 degree weather! We thought we were gonna die! I hope next weeks picture we remember to take BEFORE we start running! lol
My goal for this blog is to put it out there for the world to see that I am really (I mean it this time) really going to try and get healthy and lose some wieght as well.
With that being said....now on to my plan! I'm going back to the beginning...for the first 9 days I'm going to "detox". I will mostly eat fruits and veggies and clean my body and mind of impurities naturally without fasting or putting any toxins into my system. I will try and get at least 8 hours of sleep a night and surround myself with positive energy and reduce stress (ha, yeah....I can't wait for that one). My exercise plan....I will go to the gym and do at LEAST 30 minutes of cardio Mon, Wed, Fri and then come home to do the strength training videos of P90X! Tues, Thurs, Sat I will do the cardio videos of P90X and Sunday will be my day of rest!! :)
Wish me luck!! I wouldn't mind some extra cash (winning the bet) for the Vegas trip!! Woot-woot!!

And so it begins. . .
Michele
Ok so here it is - this is what the beginning looks like.
I started my journey on Monday August 22, 2011. I did really good this first week, I missed one day of working out. That was Thursday. I have cut my calories, but I'm not really changing what I eat, just eating less of it. I figured if that was the food I have always eaten in time I would eventually start eating it again anyway. So now I just eat a lot less.
Tonight we ran/walked Tempe Town Lake and also did the official weigh in. Good news is I am down about 4lbs from my weigh in on Monday, Keep checking back to see my progress. And if you are doing something to loose weight - post it on our blog!
